IFL Global collects and distributes each year approximately: • 300,000 mls of insulin (equal to 30,000 x 10 ml vials, or 100,000 x 3 ml penfil cartridges) • 6,000 boxes of blood glucose test strips (300,000 strips) • Blood gluose testing meters, insulin pens, pen needles and syringes. These are sent in response to emergency requests, and as part of ongoing sustainable programs. Operating costs are less than 5% of the value of the supplies. IFL Australia also partners with the International Diabetes Federation Life for a Child and Emergency Supplies programs.
A few months supply may be all that is needed, giving a person time to again obtain ongoing supplies.
IFL Affiliates exist in several countries (see above and at Contact Us). Volumes being distributed are increasing, and there is great potential for the further growth of the number of independent and affiliated collection and distribution centres . Instead of otherwise being wasted, unneeded supplies are now saving lives. We should ensure such medicines are not wasted!
Countries in all International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Regions www.idf.org have been supplied, in cooperation with Diabetes Associations, the IDF, diabetes clinics, physicians and educators, and non-government organizations, including Service Clubs. Individuals and organisations in a number of countries contribute towards for the operating costs, which are only 5-10% of the value of the supplies.
